How to install IndiController server?

In order to use your device as an input device on your Windows PC, IndiController Server will need to be installed.

You can download the server from our store: https://www.indilogic.com/product/indicontroller/#purchase

Once the server software is downloaded, install it on your Windows PC.  After installed, your server starts automatically. Make sure your server and your mobile device are on the same network.

When the server installation is complete, press Finish and an IndiController icon will appear in your system tray. A blue icon means that you are connected to the service and can now connect your mobile device to the server. If you see orange icon and if you have not entered license key, please enter the license key by right-clicking on system tray icon.

How to connect to the IndiController server?

IndiController gives a player a few ways to connect to the server. A player can auto-discover a server from the connection screen, connect to a previous server or manually connect to a server.

If the search finds a server, the player’s device will then open a connection to the server, initialize the device on the server side and then let the player know when the device is ready. Once the device is ready, a player can go into the devices screen and use the gamepad they selected. By default, the gamepad is Xbox 360 style.

Auto-Discover Server

Auto-discovering a server means it will search the local network for any servers. If the auto discover search finds more than one server, it will give the player the option to choose which server to connect to. In the settings menu, a player can set their device to also auto discover the servers on their local network at the start of the application.

Auto discovering a server is started by the Search for server option in the Connection screen. If both the device and the server are on the same network, they will usually find each other in a few seconds, if not the search can be cancelled and tried again.

When a server is found, a connection is then established with the server and then the server starts the device initialization. Once the device is ready, the player will be notified and sent back to the main screen where the devices option is now active.

Connect to Previous Server

A player can also connect to any server they were previously connected to if it is still running on the same local network as the player device. If the server is found and a connection is open, the process is the same as an open connection for an auto-discovered server.

The list of previous servers, are the servers that this device, has previously connected to. If a player wants to reconnect to a server in this list, they will just need to select that server, and press Connect to Server. Once the connection is established with the selected server, the process is same as auto discover process.

Manually Connect to Server

A player can manually connect to a server on their local network if they know the server’s IP address and what port the server is currently using. By default, the IndiController Server runs on port 4444.

For those tech savvy individuals that don’t want to use auto discover to find their server, they can connect to the server using the manual connect screen. This allows a player to enter the server IP, the port number and the server name that they want to make a connection to. After the information is entered and Connect is pressed, an initial search for the server is conducted and if the server is found a connection will be established.  Once the connection is established with the selected server, the process is same as auto discover process.

Note: If the IndiController tray icon is orange, the server is not enabled. Only when the server is blue can a player connect to that server. A player can troubleshoot issues by showing the log of the server while it is running. The log will display any errors to help understand what an issue is. If there is no tray icon for the IndiController, it is likely that the IndiController service is not running.

How to disconnect from the IndiController server?

A server can be disconnected by going to the connect screen after a connection has been established and pressing the disconnect button.  When connected to a server, a green dot will appear to the right side of the server in the previous servers list. To remove a server, press on the server’s row for a second and a pop-up will appear asking if you want to remove this server. If the server was removed, the player will be notified.

Troubleshooting
  • If IndiController notifies that it cannot connect to service, this usually means that one of the system services that IndiController uses is not currently running. If either IndiVirtualBusService or IndiControllerService is not running, you will need to start them in order for IndiController to work properly.
  • Sometimes if you are sure that everything is properly setup as it is suppose to be and still you can’t find a server, try restarting your mobile device.
  • Make sure your server and client are on the same network.
